I have over twenty-five years of combined education and experience working in the counselling profession. I am experienced in providing counselling to individuals, couples, families, and groups.

I have a special interest, education, and experience working with:
  • military and first responders/public safety personnel (e.g., police officers, firefighters, paramedics, correctional workers, dispatchers, border services, search and rescue)
  • physicians, including resident doctors, nurses, and other hospital staff
  • couples/relationships/families

As a male therapist, I have a special commitment to helping men access and receive support for their various needs and concerns, and be better able to access and manage their full range of emotions. In this way, they can improve their lives and the lives of their loved ones. I am also committed to providing women with a model and example of a caring, compassionate, emotionally supportive male figure, which many have not had.

I am semi-fluent in Portuguese and am able, with some caveats, to provide services in Portuguese. Please see the "Services" page for more details.

My Counselling Approach

The most important factor contributing to success in counselling is the relationship you have with your therapist. For me, this involves:
  • Striving to create an environment that is relaxing and welcoming, so you feel safe and comfortable exploring your needs and concerns.
  • Placing a great deal of importance on developing a strong connection with you. This way, we can work together as a team to help you set goals and achieve your greatest potential.
  • Having a positive outlook on life and believing that you already possess a great deal of strengths and abilities, and a capacity for healing.
  • Being friendly, knowledgeable, caring and compassionate, with a good sense of humour. Being genuinely curious about you and open to what you want to explore.

Education

  • Ph.D., Counselling Psychology, University of Calgary (2019)
  • M.A., Counselling Psychology, University of British Columbia (2009)
  • Ed.M., Human Development & Psychology, Harvard University (2003)
  • B.A. (Hons.), Honors Psychology, Simon Fraser University (2000)
